Update on review of requirements for granting extractives certificates of competence
On behalf of WorkSafe, the New Zealand Mining Board of Examiners has been carrying out a review of the requirements for granting extractives certificates of competence (CoCs).
A public consultation took place in July and August 2017, and 78 written submissions were received. The feedback received in these submissions is summarised in the table below.
The Board of Examiners considered this feedback when preparing its recommendations to the WorkSafe Board. Once the WorkSafe Board has approved the final CoC requirements, a notice specifying the new CoC requirements will be published in the Gazette. WorkSafe will also release a report at this time which analyses and responds to the feedback received in the consultation submissions.
After the final recommendations are approved and the Gazette notice has been published, the Board will hold workshops around New Zealand (locations yet to be confirmed) to inform industry of the new CoC requirements.
